01 / GET ACCESS
First, get on the list.
Steam handles the request and invitation. You only need to apply once.
Request access on Steam
Open the official HUNGER store page. Find Join the Hunger Playtest and choose Request Access.
Wait for an invitation
The developers are adding players progressively as they check stability. Acceptance is not immediate, and there is no guaranteed waiting time.
Check your email and Library
Once approved, Steam sends an email confirmation and HUNGER Playtest appears in your Steam Library.
Played a previous Tech Test?
If HUNGER Playtest is already in your Steam Library, the October 5 announcement says you retain access. You do not need to request it again.

Invite received. What next?
Use the Playtest entry in your Library to install the beta.
Choose your installation destination, let Steam finish the download, then launch HUNGER Playtest from your Library.
Sent a key directly? In Steam, choose Games → Activate a Product on Steam, then follow the activation steps. This is a separate route; a normal access request does not require a key.

Before you head in.
How do I join the HUNGER Playtest?
Visit the HUNGER page on Steam and select Request Access in the playtest section. Steam will confirm by email if you are approved.
Why haven’t I received an invite yet?
Invites are sent progressively while the developers validate stability. Applying does not mean instant access, and the announcements do not promise a specific waiting time. Check your Steam email and Library for confirmation.
When does the closed beta end?
The announced end is October 26, 2026 at 9am GMT (TBC). It is tentative and may change. The beta started October 19 at 10am BST. Check the official date announcement for updates.
Can new access requests close?
Yes. The October 19 announcement says the developers may close new access requests at any time. It also says friend invitations may remain available after requests close; follow official guidance for any changes.
I played a Tech Test. Do I need to apply again?
If HUNGER Playtest is already in your Steam Library from a previous Tech Test, the October 5 announcement says your access carries over. No new request is required.
Where do I find and install the beta?
After approval, look for HUNGER Playtest in your Steam Library. Select it, choose Install, select a destination and wait for the download to finish. Then launch it from the same Library entry.
Do I need a Steam key?
A normal Steam playtest request does not require a key. If you have been sent one directly, redeem it through Games → Activate a Product on Steam. Do not wait for a key if Steam has already granted your playtest access.
Is this the full game release?
No. These instructions cover the October closed beta on PC through Steam. The full HUNGER game is still listed as Coming soon on its store page.
Where should I check for setup issues or changes?
Start with the developers’ Getting Started guide and official access update. They are the best references if the schedule, request availability or installation guidance changes.
